Academic Paper Examples – Are They Worth Using?

Thanks to the digital age we live in, all of the information in the world is literally at our fingertips. When it comes to academic paper writing, this means you can find an example for just about anything you need to write. No matter the subject matter or level of writing you are doing, there is sure to be a sample out there somewhere to help get you started. The question, however, is are these samples worth using? While the answer to that question is likely different for everyone, the following three reasons in favor of using samples may help you make up your mind.

  • Formatting. For many people, the hardest part of an academic paper is getting the format just right. Even if you have compiled more than enough information for the paper, and know what you want to say in general, the best way to present that information can be hard to establish. An academic paper sample will give you a starting point from which to build your format and start to fit all of your content into.
  • Amount of Detail. Another challenging portion of an academic paper is knowing how much information to include. Inevitably, some of the information you have at your disposal will be left out. Trying to determine what to include and what to eliminate can be time consuming and frustrating. A good sample paper will demonstrate for you just how much information can be fit into the paper while maintaining the proper flow and overall length of the finished product. Even if the sample paper isn’t exactly what you have in mind for your own work, it will give you a great point of reference that you can adjust from in creating your own paper.
  • Getting Started. If there is a number one cause of not getting an academic paper finished, it is surely the challenge of simply getting started. Once the words start flowing, they usually don’t stop. Using a sample paper that is closely related to the one you will be writing is a great place to start from and get your creative juices flowing. Most likely you will read through the sample paper and see parts that you both like and dislike. Just those thought processes alone will help you formulate ideas about what you want to see in your own paper. From there, just get started writing and you will be well on your way.
