It matters very little what happens in the rest of the world economically. The Asian business environment has never been more vital and proactive than it is today. Through all of the economic problems that plague the Western world and their economies the Asian markets remained strong, vital and still growing in a manner that is truly foreign to the countries like the United States. Many would say that this is because of the distinctive culture and business systems that exist there. There is a lot of competition but also the most opportunity to make money that exists almost anywhere in the world.
The history, political systems and culture of the Asian nations have a lot to do with understanding anything about their success. The government and the culture can have an effect on the manner in which a corporation operates within their borders. Knowing what you can and can’t do is vital to the successful operation of a firm. The capitalism that is being practiced in Asia is quite a bit different from the capitalism that American companies are used to operation in.
It hasn’t taken much time for the poorly paid Chinese work force and the business management system determined to move toward modernization to change the economic fortunes of this nation significantly. China has in fact experienced the fastest growth in the history of the world over the shortest period of time. Shanghai is the city that best represents the economic growth in China. There are a significantly higher number of skyscrapers that exist here than in New York City. It is believed that it is only a matter of time before the Chinese economy is going to overtake that of the United States.
However this does not come without its share of criticism. First it is believed that many of the Chinese workers are mistreated and paid significantly lower wages which gives them an unfair advantage in production. There is not a forty hour work week, or the workforce safety requirements that exist in other countries. The working conditions in China can be compared to those that existed in the United States in the early parts of the 20th Century.
There are very few environmental laws and restrictions that the industrial complex in China has to be responsible to. This means that there are probably going to be large pollution concerns in China that will lead to a short term financial gain but long term environmental and personal health problems as a result.
The Asian Business Environment has also been aided by stealing jobs from other countries who have different economic and environmental regulations that make it impossible to compete in the production of goods.
